COACHING BOYS INTO MEN

What is CBIM?

Coaching Boys into Men (CBIM) is a comprehensive, evidence-based violence prevention curriculum that equips athletic coaches to guide young athletes in understanding that true strength never involves violence and that violence against women and girls is unacceptable.

At Stepping Stones International, we implement this program to help young boys develop respect for women and girls, beginning at home and within the school environment.

Through CBIM, we train coaches who work with young boys, enabling them to mentor their athletes and promote attitudes and behaviors that support respect and equality.

Coaches

While winning games matters, coaches also play a powerful mentoring role in the lives of young men. Their close relationships with athletes place them in a unique position to shape how boys think and behave both on and off the field. Through team talks, practices, games, and everyday conversations, coaches can consistently reinforce that violence has no place in relationships.

About the Program

The program provides strategies, scenarios, and resources that help coaches engage boys in meaningful conversations about leadership, healthy relationships, dating violence, sexual assault, and harassment.

Due to the way the program is structured, it has led to noticeable positive changes in how boys treat women and girls, encouraging greater respect and healthier attitudes in their interactions. talks, practices, games, and everyday conversations, coaches can consistently reinforce that violence has no place in relationships.

A future without violence

The program creates a safe space to challenge harmful norms and promote respectful, non-violent relationships.

In a country like Botswana, where violence against women and girls remains a serious concern, the Coaching Boys into Men (CBIM) program plays an important role in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of young men. By engaging boys through trusted mentors such as coaches, the program creates a safe and influential space to challenge harmful norms, encourage respect, and promote healthy, non-violent relationships.

Through structured conversations, real-life scenarios, and consistent mentorship, boys learn to stand up against harmful behavior, support their peers in making positive choices, and treat women and girls with dignity.
Over time, this approach helps cultivate a new generation of young men who reject violence and actively contribute to safer homes, schools, and communities.
